Click Chemistry, coined by K. Barry Sharpless of Scripps Research, has been widely used in in developing new drug molecules and non-pharamceuticals. Chemists developed a new method called the "diazotransfer" reaction where they use fluorosulfuryl azide to convert primary amines into azides in a more quick, efficient and safe way under room-temperature conditions. It also allows newly generated azides to used instantly without any further processing. The chemists at Scripps also used the technique to make triazole variants of a new anti-tuberculosis drug that contains 100 times increased potency and more efficient drug properties compared to the original molecule.
