16:0 Lysyl PG
Lysyl phosphatidylglycerol (LPG) is produced in gram-positive bacteria by the modification of PG by multiple peptide resistance factors (MprF). MprF modifies PG with positively charged amino acid residues such as lysine in the inner cytoplasmic membrane leaflet and translocates the amino acid modified PG to the outer cytoplasmic membrane. This modification has shown resistance to cationic antimicrobial peptides such as colistin, nisin, human-B-defensin 3, and polymyxin B.
